New puppy supplies.
1. Blanket or Towel for the crate: Baby blankets, receiving blankets or towels work great.
2. A Child Gate: The gate that is used for children to confine them to a room is helpful if you have a room with linoleum or tile that you want to confine your puppy in after she is almost housetrained so that she can have more space and still not damage your carpets or get into trouble when you can't directly supervisor her.
3. Comb: Combs with metal teeth work best to keep tangles and mats out of their hair.
4. Crate: The crate can be plastic or wire. But the smallest size for a puppy for crate training. See housetraining. The puppy should be in the crate while traveling in a car for safetly in case of a sudden stop or an accident. See examples of crates here.
5. Doggie toothbrush and toothpast: You will want to start brushing their teeth at a young age to get them used ot it. Tarter can build up resulting in bad breath and lost teeth if the teeth are not taken care of.
6. Exercise Pen: An exercise pen provides a safe place for your puppy to play and is a good place to confine the puppy so that it can't chew on table legs, shoes, etc. It only takes a few minutes to set up and take down. Plus you can take it with you when you travel. See examples of exercise pens here.
7. Leash and Collar: The harness type should be used for Yorkies to prevent damaging the trachea. The harness and leash should both be light weight.
8. Shampoo: There are several brands of mild dog shampoo available or use your own shampoo for them. Watch that their skin and hair doesn't dry out. If it does, you will want to try another brand. Rinse well after shampooing and then use a conditioner. Let conditioner set while you brush teeth and then rinse conditioner out well.
9. Toys: Puppies and adult Yorkies love rope toys, toys with squeakers, and soft toys to sleep with. Examine the toy to make sure it is durable enough to be chewed on and has no parts that can be chewed off. Do not give your Yorkie any rawhide, they can choke on rawhide and pig ears.
10. Water and Food Dishes: They should be short enough that the puppy can drink easily but not tip over easily. The ceramic ones are easier to keep clean than the plastic and are also heavier, so they don't tip easy. Also puppies are less likely to chew on metal or ceramic bowls than plastic bowls
